Nerja Weather Costa del Sol
Nerja, on Spain's most revered Costa del Sol is one of the few places on earth where almost every activity on offer is very much doable at any time of year. This charming town's temperate climate mean that winters, here are never long, harsh nor are they excessively cold. Summers are likewise idyllic, as the cool sea breeze helps keep sweltering heat at bay.
Sheltered by the protective barrier of the 1,800m high Almijara Mountains to the north, and the warm Mediterranean to the south, Nerja enjoys the kind of micro-climate which makes holidaying here pleasurable and rewarding all year long.
Bathed in superlative sunshine for more than 300 days a year is what makes Nerja a much coveted holiday destination for countless tourists from all over the world. Its ease of access and myriad of outdoor activities is also what has cemented its reputation as one of the most popular Spanish holiday hubs of all. Although Nerja does see some rain in winter, showers are usually sporadic and, even at their most intense, never usually last for more than 2 or 3 days consecutively. Reaching Nerja is ever so easy thanks to it being merely 50kms east of historic Malaga and, more importantly, of its handy airport.
Summer
Sunny and crystal clear skies are the order of the day between June and September, although high evaporation off the coast can also make it quite hazy at times. The average highs are typically around 27°C or 28°C, while in the peak of summer (in July and August) they will get up to around 30°C or, at times, even 40°C. The average monthly temperatures is what makes Nerja an absolute magnet for tourists and, although some days may get intensely hot, the cool sea breeze and low humidity will offer some fantastic reprieve.

Night time lows can sit around 20°C yet August can sometimes see some rather hot nights as well. Ensuring your rental apartment or hotel room is fitted with an air-conditioning unit is a must during this period of the year. Having said this, summer is, naturally, the ideal time to bask in the sun and take advantage of all the enticing water sports on offer so that will more than make up for some sporadic discomfort. The average sea temperature in summer hovers between 20°C and 24°C. This is also when the days are sunny and long, as Nerja boasts up to 14 hours of daily sunshine at the very peak of summer. Rainfall, on the other hand, is almost non-existent in July and August, while June and September see a minimum amount. Usually, when showers do come, they are extremely welcome.
Winter
The winter months, from November to February, are usually mild with average temperatures hovering around 13°C or 14°C. The temps can dip into single figures at night, yet this is usually for just a few January days alone. Many return visitors attest to this being an exceptionally nice time to visit, as one can enjoy both active skiing trips and leisurely sunbathing days, even on the same day. Although December will see Nerja hit by the heaviest rainfall of the year, the amount (up to 90mm) is by no means excessive. Over a week-long break, you'll still be able to take relaxing beachside strolls, enjoy outdoor dining and spend entire days out and about exploring the nearby attractions. Very low temperatures and weather which makes one indoor-bound are an extremely rare occurrence in Nerja, even during the height of winter.
January is a particularly pleasant month to visit and an ideal choice for those wanting a spot of R&R after the hectic Christmas celebrations. Rainfall will drop slightly this month, yet you can still expect an average of 13 wet days over a 4-week period. Stormy weather from the Atlantic can sometimes make an unwanted visit in, bringing high winds and heavy rains, but this is not frequent and the storms are usually followed by good clear sunny weather.
March is when Nerja usually sees the fastest climate change of the year. Not only do the rains subside rapidly, but the temperatures can go from a rather chilli 11°C in the first week to a sublime 20°C in the last few days of the month. Yes...spring is well on its way to the Costa del Sol!

Spring/Autumn
Spring and autumn are thought, by some, to be the ideal times to visit Nerja. Temperatures are wonderfully warm without ever getting uncomfortably hot. Autumn is a little warmer than spring but also sees more rainfall, especially as of late October, although given that this month enjoys daily highs in the mid 20s, it will still does not put a damper on your holiday.

Swimming is still very much possible then, as the always mild Mediterranean hangs on tight to the high summer heat. April and May are also lovely, with Nerja enjoying an average of 10 hours of sunshine per day, temperatures of up to 24°C and an average rainfall of only 27mm over these two months. This is when Nerja starts to awake from its light winter slumber as businesses reopen and the entire region starts to prepare itself for the busiest months of the year.
